Match report

On the hottest day of the year so far, there was a strange start for the 1st XI as the returning skipper won his first toss in living memory and decided to buck the trend of successful chases by choosing to bat first. This seemed to have been totally the right choice as Accies moved to 65-2 after 15 with the key partnership being the resolute Dhruv and the more aggressive Randy. However the loss of Randy and Nas started what felt like a typical Accies collapse as 3 overs later we were 70-6. Then came the game changing (and ultimately match winning) partnership as Kiwi Dave and Sheraz completely turned the game around with a partnership of 104 in 16 overs. When Dave fell for 63, Sheraz and his fellow bowlers ensured we batted the full 40 overs and post a slightly above par 204 on what looked like quite a flat wicket.

The Motherwell reply was a strange one as after losing two wickets in the opening 3 overs (one being a stunning run out from Nas with only 1 stump to aim at) they seemed to give up on their chase and resolved just to occupy the crease for as long as possible - perhaps due to a very hostile 3 over spell from Dave and 16 overs of metronomic accuracy from Sunil and Rory. So many times last season Rory bowled well but didn’t get the wickets he deserved however today he snapped up 4 for 23 in his 8. Lewis Oliver then replaced Sunil and bowled 7 overs straight before the effort and last nights hangover got too much but he did knock over what looked to be their best batsman. It was left to Sheraz and Dhruv to wrap up the innings and a 91 run winning margin.

We are now the only undefeated team in the league but with a couple of tricky looking fixtures coming up, the pressure remains on the continue this run.
