Match report

A match we should have won comfortably. On an overcast evening Accies were put into field, and produced a controlled, pressure exerting game that restricted West to 56 for 2. All the bowlers played a part, although Calum Herbert and Hamza Gardee had some fine spells with their best line and length of the season, with little reward unfortunately - the ball hitting the stumps on 2 occassions without the bails being dislodged, and genuine edges of the bat falling just short of fielders.

With our turn to bat, the sun made an appearance. Good you may think, but not when it is directly at a level setting that blinded our two openers so that a usually reliable pair were 4 wickets down within 2 overs :( Really very unlucky.

Chasing the game, we steadied the ship, but then lost some cheap wickets through not playing straight.

At the end of the day we scored 7 more runs than West, but lost 7 more wickets, so with the negative marking, lost the game snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

Players are improving individually, and that is good to see. A special note that Tabitha Steven became one of the first girls to debut for our JUNIOR teams, and on her first match aquitted herself admirably -hopefully inspiring more girls to ditch the hockey stick and take up the willow!

Usman Irfaan scored and led the warm up and team talk, so our thanks to him and to Brendan as well who is continuing his scoring apprenticeship.
