Match report

As indicated on the WDJCU website this was a game of four halves!  For the first 13 overs of Accies innings [47 for 2] the Ferguslie bowlers and fielders were in charge although Accies had loads of wickets in hand. Gilkison and Khan made sure of this albeit with some dubious calling at times.  However the whole pace of the innings changed when Rahim and Russell came together putting on 41 in the final seven overs.  A final tally of 88 for 3 was an "ok" score as long as the bowling and fielding was going to be tight.

The Ferguslie batsmen set off at speed and after only nine overs the match appeared to be well beyond the Accies' youngsters at 52 for just the one wicket!  Two very good run outs ensued that turned the match on its head yet again although danger man Spence was still at the crease.  Suddenly the Accies lads realised that the match was not yet lost and the bowling  and fielding at the death by Messrs Percival, Aston and Russell put so much pressure on Spence that he eventually ran himself out.  With twelve runs still required from the final over the lads could afford the luxury of giving away a five run hit.

This was an excellent advert for youth cricket and credit must go to both teams for the standard displayed and especially to our lads for their fighting spirit when all seemed lost.
