Sundays 2nd and 9th April 2006
Posted on Thursday 30th March 2006 by Fraser Murray
The smaller hockey pitch at the Windy Edge ground has been booked from 11:00 - 12:30 on these two Sundays.
We'll attempt a mixture of fitness and fielding/skills work (if it's dry) or football (if it's not).
Meet at the gates to New Anniesland at 10:45 if you're not sure where your going, or go directly to Windy Edge.
Easter Cricket Coaching Courses 2006
Posted on Thursday 23rd March 2006 by Fraser Murray
The Glasgow Academy is again running coaching courses during the Easter holidays for any young and enthusiastic cricketer (10 to 13 yrs). The courses will be organised and delivered by Mr V Hariharan who is the cricket professional with the Academy during the summer, and a leading overseas coach in Australian and Indian Cricket Centres of Excellence.
The courses will take place at The Glasgow Academy. Several facilities will be used to provide the best possible environment for learning and developing cricket skills and knowledge. This will include the recently refurbished sportshall, which now offers four high quality net areas and the option of splitting into three large open working areas, a smaller gym which provides an ideal venue for more intense technical work in small groups and a large astro-turf area.
The aim of the courses is to provide an exciting environment to learn and develop cricketing skills under expert tuition. Boys and girls are equally welcome to attend these courses. Also, both novice and experienced cricketers will find the courses equally valuable. All specialist equipment will be provided, although if boys and girls have their own equipment they will be welcome to use it on the courses. The only requirement will be to wear appropriate cricket/leisure clothing and non-marking indoor trainers.
Each course lasts for 4 days from Monday 10th-Thursday 13th April (Friday is Good Friday and a Holiday).
There are two different times for the courses, so hopefully there will be an opportunity for all those who want to attend to find a course at a suitable time.
Course 1 – Tuesday 10th April – Thursday 13th April 8.30am – 10.30am
Course 2 – Tuesday 10th April – Thursday 13th April 10.45am – 12.45am
Each course will cost £20.

The off-season has seen the establishment of a new regime of weekly indoor nets and fitness sessions in preparation for the summer, all of which have been very well attended by both established and younger players.
These will continue over the coming month before moving outside in April.

Race Night
Posted on Tuesday 7th March 2006 by Fraser Murray
The call of the touts, the thunder of hooves, the bustle of the paddock: enjoy a day at the races in the comfort of the Accies Clubhouse!
The section is pleased to announce that a race night will take place at the club on Friday 31st March. Members, friends and families of all ages are welcome.
The bar will be open from 6.30 where discussion about the form and the going are liable to be eclipsed by arrival of Nigel Campbell in full Ladies’ Day outfit, while the runners and riders will be lining up for the first race at 7.30.
Entry costs £4 and bar snacks will be available for all trainers, jockeys, punters, owners and supporters.
The first 64 entrants to send their money to Fraser Murray along with the race night entry form will receive a free horse.
Anyone wishing to sponsor a race (and thereby contribute to the club’s fund-raising efforts this season) can do so for £15, and receive public recognition on the evening, and beforehand on the club’s website.
Accies Clothing 2006
Posted on by Fraser Murray
Once again we've put together a range of clothing, with new additions for 2006 - the hooded sweatshirt, a polo shirt and two t-shirts.
As an incentive for players to get themselves sponsored, we're offering a discount of £5 on orders from all members who have found sponsors for themselves.
Orders need to be received by Friday 31st March. Please see the clothing order form for more details.
Pre-season Meeting
Posted on by Fraser Murray
All players and friends of the club are invited to an informal pre-season meeting on the evening of Friday 21st April.
Vic Hadcroft will be discussing some of the more common but complex laws, and answering any questions about umpiring issues.
More generally, the evening will be an opportunity for team-mates and supporters to get together and look forward to the coming season.
The formal part of the meeting will begin at 7.00.
Overseas Amateur Confirmed
Posted on by Fraser Murray
Following a vigorous recruitment effort over the winter the section has added significantly to its playing strength at all levels, and we look forward to welcoming back the leaner and meaner versions of Neil Dowers and Richard Andrew after their stint at the Australian Sports Gateway Cricket Academy during the off-season.
Moreover, the section has secured the services of a promising 22 year-old Australian batsman – Daniel Scott – as overseas amateur for the coming summer.
Daniel plays his cricket in Ballarat and is described as being a top-order or opening batsman.
We are certain that he will make important contributions to the club this season, both on and off the field
European Championships Matches at New Anniesland
Posted on by Fraser Murray
It was announced in February that New Anniesland is to be the venue for a number of matches in the ECC European Championship, which is taking place in the west of Scotland this year.
The top division features Scotland, Ireland, Holland, Denmark and Italy.
Division 2 forms part of the qualification process for the 2011 World Cup and includes Hellas (Greece), Norway, Guernsey, Jersey, Germany, France, Israel and Gibraltar.
Many of these sides are looking for warm-up matches, and it is probable that Accies will provide opposition for one of these countries.
The matches currently scheduled for New Anniesland are:
- Sunday 6th August: Denmark v Italy
- Tuesday 8th August: Scotland v Denmark
- Wednesday 9th August: Division 2 Final
