Accies cruise into Rowan Cup Final

Accies reached the Rowan Cup final for the first time in 38 years with a convincing 8-wicket victory over SNCL 1 side Ayr at New Anniesland last night.

Ayr won the toss and elected to bat on a hard and true Accies surface, but were immediately restricted by the bowling of Nigel Campbell (5-0-25-0) and Duncan Kelso. Logan and Rennie added 47 for the first wicket before Euan Sheridan caught and bowled Logan with his first ball.

Kash Rashid, having replaced Duncan after 3 overs, then bowled a miserly spell. His 5 overs cost only 13 and brought the wickets of opener Rennie, bowled round his legs, and wicketkeeper Hunter, caught in the covers by Andy Dodson.

Duncan retured to finish with figures of one for 30, bowling Rafiq, while Euan finished with one for 34 from his 5 overs, with Andy Dodson running out Borland with a direct hit from the covers.

Accies' reply set off at lightning pace - Richard Andrew and Andrew Dodson flayed the bowling to all corners of the ground - 39 came off the first 4 overs, and when the partnership was finally broken in the 9th, 64 runs had already been added.

Randy continued to dominate the bowling, moving to his 50 off only 35 balls and despite the loss of Fraser Murray (4), Accies eased home with Daniel Scott (9*) and Randy (65* from 49 balls, 7 fours) at the crease.

The final will be played away to either Clydesdale or Ferguslie who meet in the second semi-final next Wednesday (26th July).
