Weekend Report - 23rd July 2006

Accies 1XI were victorious in an epic battle with Hillhead at Hughenden, the 2XI claimed 18 points in a solid winning-draw performance and the 3XI fought out an admirable losing draw with a strong Home Park side in a good weekend for the club.

1XI

In a crucial clash between 1st and 2nd in WDCU division 1, Accies fought hard to claim full points and go 9.5% clear.

It didn't always look like this would be the case. Accies rebuilt from 1-1 to reach 193-9 in 50 overs. Dan Scott's exemplary form continued with a solid, patient 60, Ed Hunter showed his taste for getting out in the 40s - the 3rd time in 4 games - and Euan Sheridan added a vital 36 with the tail, as Hillhead's 2 Australian bowlers kept it tight, their 30 overs costing 82 runs for 6 wickets.

Accies claimed 3 early scalps, including Hillhead professional Dodd for just 5, but were pushed to the brink of defeat by a ferocious display of hitting from Lyndsy (56, including 11 4s). With Hillhead needing only 27 to win with 5 wickets left and 12 overs to get them, Accies seemed down and out. But Fraser Murray held a slip catch - his 3rd of the afternoon - and Richard Andrew made a sharp run out to spark a Hillhead collapse. A wicket apiece for Randy and Al Miller, who also completed the 10th wicket run out, saw Hillhead collapse to 175ao. The last 5 wickets fell for only 9 runs in 7 overs.

2XI

Neil Dowers, demoted from last week's 1XI, hit his maiden Accies ton as the 2XI reinforced its position mid-table with 18 points in a winning draw with Vale of Leven.

Austin carried his bat for 145* from 232-7 in an epic innings, in which he was dropped on 32 (he thanks whoever saw fit to record this fact in the scorebook), hit one straight up in the air just short of the fielders on 99 and stroked 13 boundaries. In partnership with Abhijit Nag and Andrew McLaughlan, 80 were added in the last 10 overs to help Annieland to a formidable total.

Early wickets fell in the Vale response, but some sticky tail-enders batted out the final overs to secure a draw. Watson Briggs claimed 4-35 from 14 overs and Pranav held 3 catches, each one sharper and more stunning than the last. McLauchlan also took a magnificent leg-side stumping to remove a well-set opener.

3XI

Most un-Dobbsly, but the scorecard isn't on the web yet, so the story of the 3XI losing draw with Home Park cannot yet be told. From what information was gathered in the bar, Home Park fielded a very strong side, including a few first teamers, and Alps fought bravely to hang on for the draw.
