Whizz kid Duncan beats the drums

The pace of Duncan Kelso has caught the eye this season and a twist of fate earned him a trial match with Scotland Under 17's yestarday against East U18's at Loretto School, Musselburgh.

Duncan, who turns 16 at the end of this month, admits that his two year absence from the game was due to being "scared of the ball" but there is no evidence of that now.

His meteoric rise began at the end of May when his name was put forward as a late nomination for the District Under 16's. Nothing further was heard from that group (until yesterday) but, due to unavailability of two main bowlers for a District U18 match against East, his services were called upon last month. He took 5 wickets in that match. The jungle drums began to beat resulting in yesterday's call up. He performed well scoring 15 not out in a 28 run last wicket partnership and took 1 for 28 from 9 overs. Scotland won by 12 runs.

There's a good chance he will be invited to join next season's Scotland Under 17 squad for winter training and I am sure he will do well if that happens.
