Accies\' Progress Progresses

Accies bright start to the season has been continued from the 1XI right down to the junior section.

The 1XI moved this weekend to 95% after 6 games with a victory over Helensburgh.

The skipper lost the toss again, and was invited to have a bat on a typical Accies road. Accies amassed 232 runs for the loss of 9 wickets without one batsman passing 40. Andy Dodson and Euan Sheridan shared the top-score of 39, Andy's coming from just 44 balls. Special mention must be given to the 'one-day finisher' Andy Smith, who this season had scored 82 runs without being dismissed before this game. He added 17 before being bowled leaving a big-turning off-break from the Helensburgh pro - to be dismissed 1 short of his 'century'.

In reply, Helesnburgh crumbled to 85-8, before much strike-farming by their professional got them to 158 before he was dismissed - caught sharply by Nigel Campbell at point. He made 118 out of the final total of 170.

Pick of the bowlers was Richard Andrew, who took his first 5-wicket haul - 5-55 in 13, including the pro. Well done, Randy!

The 2XI claimed an 18-point winning draw at Garscube. Anniesland's total of 208 (Paton 49*, Milne 49, Dowers 32) proved too much for Garscube's 179-9 (Briggs 4-32, Andar 3-38) although the last wicket partnership managed to claim 2 more points for Garscube.

This puts the 2XI in 6th place, but this number is deceptive, as one good Saturday could see them jump as high as 2nd.

In Division 5, the 3XI produced a glorious victory over Whiteinch.

Bowling first, the opposition made 173, which would often have been too much for past 3XI sides. Bowling-wise, Corrie Dick snared 4-36 bowling big turning leggies, and Ross Beattie took, by all accounts, the catch of the season - a reaction grab at short mid-wicket.

Chasing, Alps made a shaky start, losing openers Dawson and Beattie early, but an almost perfect innings from Andrew McLauchlan, with David Jones in support, saw them home comfortably with 7 wickets and 12 overs to spare. Spud grafted hard to reach his maiden 50, then opened his shoulders to be 86* at the end of play 7 overs later.

The Sunday Development Team made it 5/5 by defeating Feguslie in a close contest at Accies. Pranav's half-century proved, in the end, the difference between the two teams.

On Monday evening the U18s completed a 3rd victory from 3 fixtures, trouncing Kilmarnock at Accies. The visitors' 73ao (Stuart Young 3-24, Thomas Fleming 4-10) looked only briefly like it might be enough, as 1XI batsmen Roddy Kelso and Euan Sheridan fell cheaply. Accies victory was never in doubt, though, when Neil Dowers got going. He struck 9 4s in an authoritative innings of 54*, during which he also broke Beaver's bat.

Club moral has been handed a double boost recently, with these positive results and Ken Barron's new policy of actually opening the bar helping to build the social side of the club.

Opening hours for the new-look and newly opening upstairs bar can be found on the home page of the website.
