Weekend Update - 16th May 2004

A slightly better weekend for cricket than the last, Accies enjoyed three days devoid of cancellation!

On Friday night, the U15s enjoyed a comfortable victory over Hillhead, easily chasing the total required with a 50 partnership between Andrew McLaughlan (10) and Roddy Kelso (44) providing the basis for the chase. Meanwhile, the U12s were comprehensively beaten away at West, the home side chasing the target of 77 with 9 wickets and over 5 overs to spare.

On Saturday, the firsts played host to Irvine. Skipper Fraser Murray lost the toss but Accies were put in to bat on a beautiful deck, which proved to be a poor decision decision as they scored 194, with Stuart Matthews and Fraser Murray each wielding the bat with great effect, scoring 75 and 39 respectively. Special notice must be given to Roddy Kelso for being out twice off the same no-ball (bowled, then stumped), having also been run out but for the keeper's pads beating the ball to the stumps only a few balls before. He should have been dismissed 4 times in his brief knock of 2. The bowlers set about attacking the Irvine line up, and managed to take 9 (3 for Vedam Hariharan and Andy Smith, 1 apiece for Nigel Campbell and Michael Hopkins, and one run out) before play closed. The game ended in a winning draw in which Accies were left ruing dropped catches.

The seconds travelled to Inverclyde, where they batted first (Tommy Milne scoring 98 - well done for avoiding costing Dobs another tankard!) and scored a respectable total. They bowled well, with Thomas Fleming taking 3 for, and the game ended in a winning draw for Accies.

On Saturday, the Development XI played the University Staff in a match transferred from Garscube to Accies. Fraser continued his remarkable run of won tosses in the Sunday league (now 8 in a row) to allow Accies to bat first. The openers batted well, and made a partnership of 72 (R Kelso 40, N Dowers 34). Richard Andrew batted 3 and scored a quick 30 as Accies coasted to 193 from 40 overs. Accies bowled tightly and took 9 wickets as the Uni. Staff failed to chase the total.

Another successful weekend for Accies - let's hope both the form and the sunshine persist!
