Weekend Update - 23 May 2004

Saturday the 22nd of May witnessed the return of ex-1XI batsman Brian Dundas to Accies, sadly sporting East Kilbride colours. It was somewhat of a success for Baz, much to the disappointment of Accies, as EK left Anniesland with a winning draw, the returning Baz scoring 37 along with 72 from Gavin Bradley contributing to a first innings total of 202 all out. What should have been a relatively simple chase for Accies - considering the depth of their batting - turned out to be too much in the end. Fraser Murray was one of the only Accies batsmen to flourish, scoring 42 before being stumped after charging the East Kilbride spinner. Roddy Kelso and Nigel Campbell batted out 10 overs for the draw, Roddy finishing on 26* - a fine effort for an U15 playing only his second Western Union Division 1 match!

Accies seconds were away at Vale of Leven, where they enjoyed the challenge of chasing the score of 163 set by the home side. Marty Oliver scored 48, Sohail Riaz 28, and Satwant Uppal a six off the third last ball to tie the scores. Thanks to Satwant's habitual big hitting, the seconds came away from Vale with 25 points.

The 3XI got their season underway this weekend, suffering a losing draw at the hands of Kirkstyle. Performances of note from that game were the 2 wickets of 11 year old Sam Page, a 39 from Jamie Young and a controlled performance from Ross Beattie to bat 20+ overs for the draw.

On Sunday, Bute's Sunday XI travelled to Accies to face our development XI. The amount of actual developing going on was questionable, as the Bute first innings total of 133-9 (Fleming 3-32 off 8, Sood 2-32 off 5, Sheridan 3-13 off 8) was knocked off largely in a 100 partnership between 1XI Skipper Fraser Murray (63*) and ex-1XI Skipper Nigel Campbell (45). Note must go to Thomas Fleming for taking two wickets with chinamen that spun several feet, one taking out the batsman's off-stump after he had left, the other getting the man plum lbw not offering a shot! Perhaps it would do Bute good to study the laws of the lbw for our next fixture. I only say this having heard their discussion as they left the field: "That one where he hit it into his pads, that was SO out!"
