It is undeniable that Accies have made an excellent start to the 2004 season.
It all began on Friday night, when the U15s took on Ferguslie at
Meikleriggs. Ferguslie batted first and totalled 134. This was a tough
looking total, and would have proved too large for most sides. Unlike most
sides, however, we had Roddy Kelso opening the batting. He scored 104* as
Accies won at a canter. A marvellous start to the season for Roddy, Accies
will be left hoping he can continue to score runs as well all season!
On Saturday, only 1 of the 3 league teams got their season underway. The 2XI
faced Victoria at Alps, Accies being unplayable. Accies bowled first,
dismissing the opposition for just 174, the captain and ever inspiring Eggy
taking 4 for. This total was easily chased, as George Paton hit his first 50
of the season, and Watson Briggs chipped in with an unbeaten 47.
On Sunday, a relatively new look 1XI travelled next door to face GHK. New
captain Fraser Murray won the toss and elected to bowl. This proved to be an
excellent move, as the first three wickets fell fairly quickly, one going to
Richard Andrew, two to débutante Nish Goyal. With bad blood, umpiring
controversy and lusty blows aplenty, GHK were finally all out for 166 from
48.2 overs. Every Accies batsman got a knock as the score was chased down -
most notably, 50 from Sid Hariharan, 39 to Fraser Murray, and an unbeaten 1
from retired captain Nigel Campbell to win the game, playing his favourite -
and only - shot: the late cut!
Long may weekends be as successful for the club!
