After a disappointing start to the season the previous week, Accies were looking to bounce back at Old Anniesland against local rivals GHK.
The day started well with Baz winning a good toss and sent GHK into bat on a damp wicket, with Fritzy having a great view from his kitchen of the uncovered deck during Wednesday's downpour.
Once the 30-yard circle was finally marked, openers Abhay and Guru looked to make use of the conditions and put early pressure on the GHK batting line up. however it wasn't till 44 runs were on the board that the first wicket fell, Abhay's trademark outswing finding the edge and the ball happily snapped up by Ed behind the stumps. This brought about 3 more quick wickets for only 6 runs, and Accies were looking to keep the GHK total under 100.
The GHK middle order had other ideas and numbers 4 & 6 brought up a 100 partnership in the dying overs to leave Accies needing 159 for victory.
This was vastly helped by some poor fielding from Accies, 9 dropped catches in total. Randy bowled particularly tidy bowling his 15 overs straight conceding only 28 runs.
After a poor tea, the Accies openers were keen to get off to a positive start, helped by some loose bowling and some great shots.
Wickets fell at regular intervals however. Randy out for a typically quick fire 20, having pulled the opener for 6 onto the scorebox, looked to repeat the shot the next over but could only find the toe of the bat and was well caught one-handed at midwicket.
Gary Erskine finally managed to get bat on ball in his second league innings, but couldn't take advantage and was out for 4.
Dougie was out stumped, much to the dismay of club coach Hari, "that's school boy cricket".
Fritzy and Baz produced a slight recovery in the middle overs, taking the score into three-figures. Both were unlucky to fall victim to the rapidly deteriorating pitch, both having the ball rear up off a full length. Fritzy managing to somehow play on off his arm from the off-spin of Anjum, and Baz gloving a catch to slip.
With the GHK bowlers helping out with 42 wides runs continued to flow and Accies were stumbling to the finishing line thanks to gutsy knocks from Briggsy and Abhay.
Wickets continued to fall and Accies were eventually bowled out finishing agonisingly close losing by 3 runs.
Accies will want to kick start their season away at Galloway next weekend.
