Match report

A  cracking game of cricket played in great spirit saw Anniesland win by 15 runs with 3 balls to spare.

A game which ebbed and flowed came down to some moments of great fielding and one sublime match winning innings by captain QQ - 75 of the best runs you’ll see.

Losing the toss we were asked to bat and the 2s opening OG's were immediately at it - with Crawford flying to a chanceless 39 of just 42 balls before being well yorked.

QQ was building an innings with lovely shots through the V and whilst Mustapha a bit jet lagged came and went some aggressive running from Fraser gave QQ momentum and he reached a maiden 50 - reader I wept.

Fraser got himself out with a fish nor fowl shot and Karan got one which kept low. Now Arran and QQ attacked and whilst QQ eventually went after facing 100 balls for his 75 (and breaking a bat in the process) Aaran kept the foot down run out last ball for a smashing 29.

After a lovely Tea from our hosts we felt confident and when Satish on debut pinned the excellent “Eddie” (Glenpark star all rounder) for 0 first all was going well. However we started raining wides and momentum swung to Glenpark with Peter 1 and Peter 2 playing series of great strokes.

Cometh the hour cometh the man QQ with an amazing 60m run out direct hit to remove the classy number 3 (aka Peter 1). Drinks.

After Drinks the other opener opposition skipper (Peter 2) upped the anti and was in good nick (having it must be said survived a very confident appeal second over from Alex B caught behind) however he was unlucky enough to absolutely smash a low full toss back at me and departed for a great 38.

Satish followed this with two more quick wickets and momentum all Anniesland - until…

Calamity with a fairly regulation catch spilled (off me) and head clash too saw QQ leave field of play and suddenly runs were getting struck, sneaked, curdled… (Opposition generously tgave us a concussion substitute Andy who was paid post match in Cider)

Two more catches went down same player same bowler and frustration rising until some DOT BALL PRESSURE (that old chestnut) brought first an eventual steepling catch held (me - spectators would have had a field day if I had dropped it) off the excellent James Olney followed immediately by more…DOT BALL PRESSURE… and the run out of the other set bat - James calmly throwing to my end after smart stop in the covers.

Suddenly opposition looking for a draw and having had an “adjacent” LBW dismissed - a draw seemed odds on but first Alex pinned that same player next over on the foot and in final over James Olney won it with an exceptional c&b diving forward.

MOTM: QQ for 75 with honourable mentions for Crawford and James Oleny

Champagne Moment: QQ run out from 60m

Dick of the Day: Tied between QQ nearly knocking himself out whilst dropping a catch and me having an emotional breakdown about the number of dropped catches

A great day with great opposition (who in one match awarded us three LBWs all out but my gosh great to see consistent honesty umpiring in Div4) who we will enjoy playing next year and a pint in the bar too!
