Match report

Anniesland started their season in Championship 3 with a dominant win over a spirited and well marshalled Cavaliers side.

On a freezing cold but dry day Qasim in his second season as 2s skipper won the toss and elected to bat.

Missing five certain 2nd XI starters due to school exams and other availability issues he could still field a strong side - testament to the growing strength of depth in club (maybe a 3rd XI next season?!).

Clydesdale to their credit this year fielding FOUR full Saturday XIs and this side had a mix of experience and youth reminiscent of Anniesland sides of a few years back.

To start the season QQ hit first ball 4 second ball nicked off and gone. Former Accie Prassana K the bowler and shortly after Aaron got an absolute jaffa from same bowler clipping top of off.

Suraj and Fraser on the rebuild until Suraj played down wrong line.

Slight wobble perhaps but all doubts put to one side as Fraser and Ian built a really solid well paced partnership with Ian falling in his 40s to a premeditated shot.

That brought Sathish to crease who accelerated the scoring with finesse and both he and Fraser brought up will earned, chance-less 50s.

Some good lower order batting from Diliwar and Eekansh and a fairly hefty set of extras took us to a huge total.

Credit to Dale skipper Asim who when bowling from far end had a lot more joy picking up 3 (including a golden duck for your correspondent) and led his troops well throughout.

In reply Dale opener Ben Aitchison (who likely bowled from wrong end in our innings) was pick of their batting with nice 29.

U15 Scotland bowler Eekansh hampered by a lack of spikes was still v hard to handle and ended with 3 wickets - he will take a lot of stopping in this division.

SLA bowler Sid was probably pick off the bowlers on the day also picking up 3 and a sharp catch at short backward point.

Anniesland should be demanding and securing promotion from this league and whilst they can expect very serious tests from Glenpark, Tryst (though they have lost their star man trading up from Div 4 West to East Prem Corstophine…) and Woodfarm (next weekend’s opponents) amongst others, this was a good marker for the season ahead.

That said still some sloppiness in the field and issues with too many wides bowled and a few catches put down. So plenty to work on.
