Match report

Match Report: Anniesland vs Galloway 2s

Anniesland made the long trip to Galloway to take on Gatehouse of Fleet (shoutout to Eds bus which is back in commission). They set out to defend their undefeated record and make it 6 out of 6 in champ 3. QQ lost the toss and was put in to bat on a green wicket with plenty of cloud cover about. With 3 of the top 5 yet to arrive, QQ and Ramsay headed out to open after an order rejig.

The wicket proved difficult early on, spongey and offering extra AND unevern bounce. QQ perished in the 3rd over as he tried something new (driving through the covers). In the next over Ramsay was undone by the extra bounce as the ball popped gently to short mid off. Fraser had one pop up to him and called for the helmet. The next one pitched back of a length and stayed just low enough to catch the underedge or Frasers bat as he fell in the 3rd. The 2s were reduced to 21-3 from 5 overs. The latecomers were at the crease, Sathish and Anandu looked like they were going to recover the poor start. Anandu started his innings by flicking one around his hips beautifully. Sathish got stuck in, as he doored the bowling untill he tried to go big and straight but was caught at mid off. Ed ended his umpiring stint and hurried off the pitch to get the pads on as he was promoted to 8, "The man for a crisis" QQ said, how true this would be. Sushant went for none a few balls later as he pushed a full toss straight back to the bowler. Andy looked to counter attack as he hit 2 high and handsome sixes. He then hooked one round his hips beautifully but was robbed of a boundary by the hill. A few balls later he was bowled by a great yorker for 19 runs. The 2s were shell-shocked at 49-6 in the 14th over.

Cometh the hour cometh the man, Ed came in to repeat the Glenpark heroics. Ian and Ed set out about their business, Ian looked solid as he got on the front foot and played the ball late under his eyes. Ed got himself into trouble early as leading edge was shelled a short mid off ( A dolly), so he got a life on 8. Eventually, they successfully made it through to 20 overs, seeing off the opening bowlers spells, and played a few good shots on the way. 62-6 at drinks.

Around the 25th over Ed started to accelerate, he swept, cut and slapped his way to a fantastic 39 runs, great grounded shots and hard running shifted the momentum back to Accies. Ed eventually departed in the 34th, he was pinned LBW as he looked to start cutting loose after Accies had hit the 120 mark. He then proceeded to complain about the decision and show everybody his bruise high up his thigh which once it was pointed out he was sweeping rather confirmed it was plumb!

Whilst Ed had been cutting loose, Ian had been building an innings slowly and steadily. He was on 20 runs when Ed departed, he had looked solid and the highlight of his innings was a scorching extra cover drive for 4. Ian cut loose in the 36th over and picked his deliveries. His next few scoring shots were 6, 4, 4, 4, 1, 1, 4. Brutal hitting, as he timed some excellent power shots through the legside. He was run out in the 40th on 43. Accies finished on 156-9 from their 40. A difficult score to chase on a tough wicket.

Sohrab and Ian opened the bowling. The Galloway openers looked solid and made runs early. Sushant dropped a dolly off Ian’s bowling and the batsman kept coming and there were some poor misfields too. The opening partnership was broken as one was pulled to the legside from the opener, it took one bounce and was stopped well by Ramsay, who put in a bullet throw to Anandu and the opening partnership was broken. Sushant then redeemed his drop by clean bowling the remaining opener who was on 19 at the time with an absolute seed that swung in and took the batsman’s middle stump. Ian bowled a lethal 9 over spell which deserved a wicket, it bounced and turned and caused the batsman all sorts of trouble. He ended up his spell with 27runs conceded off 9.

He was replaced by Jatin who on senior debut for Accies took only 3 balls to strike as he pinned Galloways number 5 lbw. Then drinks after which in the first over back out Ed produced a specatcualr effort at mid off to safely field and gather a runway lost dog diving full stretch…Good boy

Ramsay got another speculator run out as he once again picked a bouncing ball up at head height and put in a great throw to Anandu again for another run out. Sushant continued to bowl well and ended with 3 clean bowled wickets. Muttu was economical on debut. Jatin came back on and took another. Accies got a third run out via Fraser, who also took the catch to end the game.

Accies in the end won comfortably by 50 odd runs as Galloway finished on 107 all out.

However, the game was anything but comfortable
