Alps 167-4 (25 pts) beat Hillend 166 all out by 6 wickets.
Match played at The School Ground, Glasgow on Saturday 28th July 2007 at 13:00.
Brunton Miller Western Union Division 5, 100 overs.
Toss won by Alps, who elected to field.
Alps emerged victorious despite the weather’s attempts to turn the WDCU Division 5 match into a farce.
Tidy Bowling
Having won the toss and elected to field, stand-in-skipper Haydn Gleed opened the bowling with the team’s two leading seamers- Myles Shields and Prem Kumar.
Fiery 18-year-old seamer Shields started well, but seemed a little put off when Hillend’s 14-year old opener swiped him to the boundary for four runs.
By the 10th over it was time for a change. So, having taken no wickets in his first spell, Myles was replaced by 16-year-old spinner Corrie Dick who took the wicket of S. Singh in his first over (following his ritual beamer- a delivery that last time hospitalised a Hillend batsman, removing him from Greenock’s roster altogether for the season!)
Dick bowled his mixture of crap and top-notch leggys, ending 26 overs later with figured of [13-2-39-3] which is okay… ;p
Prem bowled a very tight line for the duration of his 10-over spell, until at 21 overs, Haydn Gleed brought himself on to take two quick, and valuable wickets (between downpours.)
Tom Sutton bowled very well with his tranquilisingly economical bowling action, enticing the batsmen to swing wildly at the ball.
Ooh and Ross Paton bowled… eh… more than six balls in his over- a good effort!
The Paton XI
With 166 to beat, casual George Paton (father of Ross) set out with Rajan Patel to get Accies off to a solid start, and they looked in control, until Rajan, who had taken a stunning catch at slip 1st innings, was cut short by a big-seaming delivery by Singh.
Ross Beattie was his replacement, and he too looked good- but didn’t get far past playing himself in, being bowled by M. Farell the ball after a breathtaking boundary.
..and then the Patons got 78 between them, allegedly their largest partnership.
Ross Paton was looking very comfortable, totting the bowling of P. Robertson and C. McDougall to every corner of New Anniesland. He failed to make his 47 however, caught at long-on on 47 the ball before drinks.
Alex Dowers, only recently back from a shoulder injury, scored a run, before being the unlucky recipient of McDougall’s jaffer of the match.
Corrie scored some runs too, and a notably massive six- he’s also comfortable his the late cut.
Hell Yeah!
Play like that next week boys, and Scotindians will require an even more laughable level of treachery if they have a shot!
