Match report

Alps made the journey to the picturesque setting of Helensburgh's Cricket ground. With the rooks merrily sqawking away in the woods next to the field, and the sun beating down all day, a most entertaining afternoon developed. Alas, not a victory, but enjoyment for all nonetheless.

Electing to bat, Alps made steady if unspectacular progress, built upon a very fine innings of 54 from Fraser Murray. He coped extremely well with the lively Ardencaple attack, and was ably supported by some stubborn resistance in the shape of Pathak. The youthful figures of Tom Aston and Andrew Robinson also added valauable runs, both of whom batted extremely well for 14 runs each. The team was reasonably satisfied with the eventual total of 137, having negotiated the full 40 overs.

The details of the Ardencaple innings will follow in due course, but no-one filled in the details in our book when we were fielding. We are thus awaiting the copy from the opposition captain. However, it can be reported that the home team came out with all guns a-blazing, and scored very rapidly indeed. The ball was flying around all over the place; and our captain- to his deep chagrin- had to watch as a thumping shot for 6 landed on top of his car. In the end, Alps capitulated to an 8-wicket loss; but many positives can be found in the overall performance, especially the bowling in the second inning of the dynamic duo, Aston and Robinson.
