Match report

With downpours threatening throughout the day, young skipper Corrie Dick’s hopes of a match were not immense, to say the least. Nonetheless, a team of ten was conjured in the late afternoon/evening for an enjoyable and therapeutic match (despite despicable organisational skills…)

Brigsy’s Bounces Wangle Wickets

Having loss the toss, Dick set a hotchpotch field and tossed team-boy Habib Malik the fading cherry. Habib’s opening spell tied down the aggressive Paisley batsmen causing some frustration and uppish shots- his wicketless spell didn’t go without opportunity, and his particularly tight third over was a maiden.

Watson Briggs, one of many late call-ups, was then called upon to try his left arm at breaking the opening partnership- and that he did! His first over (from the Chamberlain Road End) involved a hat-trick and three dot balls, the batsmen seemed unable to cope with Watson’s illegible bounce- well bowled! His second over was equally as tight, and was a maiden- Paisley then unfortunately got it’s eye in.

Anthony Revell bowled well, as did Mike Callaghan in his second spell, both claimed two valuable middle-order wickets against a team that can “bat” all the way down.

Both Corrie Dick and Andy Sullivan (on his first match for Glasgow Accies) looked promising, but each failed to take a wicket.

Somehow Paisley managed to conjure a total of 156 on their fairly hieroglyphic scorecard, would Accies be up to the task…

Ringers? In The Midweek XI!!?? Bah!

Roddy Kelso and Neil Dowers opened the batting, Roddy dispatching the first delivery of Accies’ innings for a four in the poorly-manned leg-side.

The decisive pair, clearly comfortable in each others’ company at opposite creases, continued to build their respective innings and had totted up 50 runs by the 33rd ball of the innings. Habib Malik was particularly impressed with Austin’s first boundary- a “pure sweetly timed” cover drive that seemed to pick up speed as it rolled.

To be honest, there was very little to this innings- all I can take from it is that it was tranquilising to watch the pair rack up tens upon tens, until 140 runs.

Unfortunately, however, Neil didn’t go the distance, edging a big-bouncing leggy/offy to the keeper in the 15th over.

Roddy and his new partner Satwant Uppal completed the conversion, and Sats hit the winning run- his only run making the rest seem like donkey work!

Summary

A good side to beat, Paisley. Now… I’m running out of bloody balls!
