Match report

The Midweek XI upheld their unbeaten seasonal record, defeating a seven-man Clyde side.

Batting

There was not the normal linchpin to our batting innings; rather more an even spread of runs throughout the team- Roddy Kelso top scored, with a little help from a dropped catch on 24, and no help from his reverse-sweep stroke.

Michael Callaghan expressed some promising shots, posting his first double-figure score (one milestone our site fails to glorify) with two boundaries- this boy's one to watch!

Chris Brennan provided the final fireworks, which later proved surplus to requirements, with a straight six over mid-on from his first ball, following his captain's "stick with me 'till 100 and then we'll have a hit."

What could be described as the highlight of the innings, and/or the "fine of the day", was Corrie Dick's hit-wicket dismissal, having punished a slow leg-side lob to the boundary, he stepped on his wicket, wincing- this appeared to spur some merriment in his team-mates.

Fielding/Bowling

The midweek eleven then successfully defended their inferior-by-their-standard total rather capaciously- the backbone of the attack being opening paceman Chris Brennan [3-0-14-2], and Welsh offy Haydn Gleed [3.5-0-6-2], who tied down the middle order quite coolly.

Following a shot very similar to the one that Roddy had played in the first innings- straight up- the elder Kelso brother decisively swallowed the catch. This, nevertheless, was not the catch of the day...

A confident Anthony Revell, who had earlier been describing his 100% catching record snatched the ball from the air to his left, contradicting all probability, and appeared not to have been in any way perturbed by the excitement- but he dropped one off Coz... despicable... :p

Alasdair Wilson caught one! - Enough said? It was a good catch, technique aside, where the ball flew at the centre of his chest at square leg.

Conclusion

Well played the Midweek XI! Keep it up, lads!
