Match report

What a pleasure and indeed surprise to actually start and finish a match and it took until this, the final match [rearranged from 15 May], to get Qasim Qayyum and Jack Henry their debuts for Accies whilst Lochie Morris needs to get registered for senior cricket and get a few games under his belt next season - he has a nice easy bowling action.

Bowling generally was tidy although wides did become a factor later in the West innings. Bowlers also have to remember to get behind the stumps to receive the return throws.  West's total of 91 for 4 [71 nett] was a pretty fair score and would be hard to beat.

However the Accies lads came out fighting with Morris and Keeley setting the pace with four quick boundaries plus the only three of the match.  McMurray and Henry then added 38 runs without loss for the second pairing to put the team in good position.  An unfortunate loss of three wickets in the third pairing held up the rush but they still managed a positive score. The icing on the cake was then provided by the last pair adding a further 31 runs for the loss of only one wicket.  However with the final over starting Accies were 1 run in the lead and therefore did not need to score any further runs.  Venkatesh and Mahendra were heard to say to each other "no need to score any runs - just don't get out."  Attack semed to be the best form of defence for Venkatesh however as he swung and missed five of the six balls but amazingly their best bowler contrived in this over not to bowl a single straight ball - surely even one would have done the trick.

Well done lads and I hope you enjoyed what little season the weather allowed and come back next season raring to go. Incidentally West were top of the league before tonight's match - now they are only joint top with us although it seems that they have one game in hand next week against Hillhead.
