Isn't it nice to put one over on the Dale? No - it's great! And in such style! A repeat performance in the upcoming [sometime] Frank Smith Trophy match at Titwood will just put the icing on the cake. Can Charlie McNaught hit bigger 6's than Jake Harris? Is his run rate better than Jake's? No doubt all will be revealed at the end of the season.
Truthfully this was a satisfying performance. Wih George Clark having disposed of previous U18 league century maker, Sam Page, the lads kept up the pressure on the Clydesdale lads for whom Lyle Hill proved again that he can bat quite a lot! A. Ulla was the only other team mate to give him support and a total of 155 was possibly not nearly enough if Accies replied with sensible batting. All the Accie bowlers chipped in with wickets.
In reply Nirvik fell fairly cheaply plumb lbw [he actually admitted that!] but Phil Revie and Habib Malik both played sensibly keeping the runs ticking over. Phil fell to a bowled having shown the others the way over the boundary. Connor McInteer kept things moving with Habib at better than a run per ball but missed a straight full toss that should have landed, according to him, somewhere in upper Munro Road! And then the explosion came -
Charlie McNaught thrashed 41 from 19 balls with 4 fours and 3 sixes with Messrs Hill, Mahmood and Chitnis suffering particularly. He just had to miscue one sooner or later and Sam Page gratefully accepted the offering. Too little too late and the Bhoys cantered to a win with over four overs to spare.
Potentially this is a very strong side and there is back up. Euan Crawford, Ally Ferguson, Tom Bonnington, Tim McAlpine-Scott and Andrew Morris were either unavailable or were not invited to play. Spare bowlers, wicket-keepers - what more can one ask for and that's not even having to look at the U15 squad!
