Match report

Accies travelled West under a cloudy sky and amid doubts as to whether the SCU Trophy quarter final would even go ahead as planned.

The worries proved to be unfounded and the match should have begun on schedule, albeit on a pitch which offered a lot of help to the bowlers. That the game didn't start on schedule was down to the Accies' bus pulling up to the ground at 12.55.

Randy and Abhay made use of the new ball and the soft deck, restricting the Strathmore top order to under 2 runs per over and grabbing a couple of important, momentum-stalling wickets.

The spinners took over where the seamers had left off, Sheraz and Vikas never allowing Strathmore to settle into a rhythm and each claiming three-fors.

Desipte a useful last-wicket partnerships, Strathmore limped to 138ao in the 47th over; an achievable total, so long as Accies dealt with the deteriorating pitch.

Accies' quickly rebuilt from the loss of Tanvir, but after a heavy rain interruption, tight opposition bowling led to the regular loss of wickets on a deck that was now offering lots of assistance to the bowlers.

It took a rebuilding innings from Fritzy (23) and Trophy-specialist Habib Malik, who followed up his third team 96 of the day before with a hard-earned 26 before being run out in the game's closing stages, to get Accies on track.

The game came down to the wire, and with Vikas caught trying to hit the winning runs, Accies ultimately required two runs from the last two overs, with two wickets remaining, to seal the victory.

Man of the match Abhay Andar lofted the fourth ball of the penultimate over for a towering straight six to finish with 33* and take Accies to a winning total of 143-8.

Accies were overjoyed with the deserved victory and will look to return to league cricket with some sorely-needed momentum next weekend when they host fellow relegation candidates GHK.
