Match report

The Sunday XI played on Saturday this week with the 2s league match taking place on Sunday. We welcomed a Kelburne XI to the school ground, which was looking magnificent.

Hats off to our groundsman Robert Cheape for curating a lovely hard true pitch without the benefit of covers.

Kelburne elected to bat and racked up 251-7, abetted by a quick outfield, 102* for their number 3 Miller and 61 for their number 4 and captain Silvin.

Naveed was the pick of our bowlers with an unplayable (although necessarily short) spell of 3-1-1-2. Fahd bowled nicely and also picked up 2, with 1 each for Waleed and Sohrab. Well fielded Accies.

An excellent tea then followed.

Batting, Mustafa (54) and Naveed (33) got us off to a flyer. Murray chipped in with a rapid 8, and Aaron (36) kept up the impetus.

At drinks, we were 152-4…well ahead of the asking rate but needing to treasure our wickets as Sohrab had been called away, so we were batting with 9.

Unfortunately a collapse ensued and our innings came to an end in the 24th over.

In conclusion:

  • The match felt, for long periods, much closer than the headline score might have suggested.
  • Closely fought, competitive, but  good humoured throughout, and with all 20 participants thoroughly enjoying a good day's cricket.
  • We played well but ended up losing to a slightly better team.

Next week we host the XL club, on Sunday, which should be a cracker!
