Match report

On another evening in the gathering gloom [it actually did not rain] the Accies 11 youngsters were destroyed almost single-handedly by Master Heider.  He batted without much technique but, wow, could he hit the ball!  The Killie opening pair gave an insight into what was to come with 3 boundaries and 21 runs although losing 3 wickets in the process one of which was a bullet shot to midwicket [9 year old Robbie McCallum] who pouched the ball as if picking sweeties from the shelf!

Unfortunately enter Master Heider who spent his whole innings in Peter Willey stance some two metres down the track - very weird but effective as he blasted 2 sixes and three fours in his innings.  Leon Hay was everywhere in the field and then proceeded to take a couple of wickets [2 for 9] as did Cameron Russell [2 for 2] to bring a semblance of order back into proceedings.  Robbie McCallum also contrived to bowl the first Accies' maiden over since the start of July and took a wicket to boot!

Sadly Accies had no answer to the Kilmarnock fireworks apart from Leon Hay and to a lesser extent Mark Forbes and the ever reliable Mr Extras who compiled another magnificent half century to the cause.  Again Master Heider was destroyer in chief with the ball this time ending with an analysis of 4 overs, 4 maidens, 3 wickets for 0 runs!

So here endeth the 2008 league season lesson - I hope the lads will make an effort to come to winter sessions starting in January 2009 - details on the website.  Their enthusiasm has shown no bounds this summer but they were just outgunned by stronger opponents. 

To conclude I took a group of 13 U11's to the West of Scotland Kwik Cricket Festival last Sunday to play three matches.  We ended up playing a team of 9 twice and helped out Clydesdale who also had 13 youngsters to make up a combined XI. I can safely say that everyone had a great time and I hope to be able to muster a squad to travel to Stirling on 7 September for the National Kwik Cricket Festival "run" by Cricket Scotland.
