Match report

The eagle-eyed of you will spot that, according to the detailed scorecard, Ayr won by only 83 runs.  That is due to an anomaly in that the website cannot record a net zero score and also show the full innings of the team batting. Therefore I had to show Accies as having scored one run.  A total of 45 runs scored for 9 wickets at minus 5 apiece = zero.

This outing was the complete antithesis of the match against Poloc.  The Ayr boys bowled straight and true, our lads were unable to score off the bat with only 14 coming from the willow. Ayr only gave us 22 extras in wides and no balls whilst the Accies lads reciprocated by giving Ayr 43 wides and they scored 52 from the bat only losing three wickets.  A real lesson in all aspects of the game including general alertness in the field from the Alloway lads.

Perhaps it was the fact that it started to rain at exactly 6pm and in order to save the match after having shifted the covers twice for showers we decided to leave the covers on the 2nd XI pitch and play around them.  The temperature also reached a miserly 50F and the Accies lads seemed to go into a cryogenic trance as result.  A far cry from last weekend's tropical environment!
