Match report

A season of losing by a) Too many cheap wickets given away or b)too many wides bowled continued this week with our lads falling into category a).

After losing the toss and being put into bat, a bright solid start was turned on its head as we lost 5 wickets towards the end. A few silly run outs and some shocking slogging to straight balls really put us on the back foot. Notable knocks from Lewis Oliver and Hamza Irfaan showed the boys how easy the game can be if you watch the ball, play straight and run sensibly.

On to the field, and as usual as has been the case in the last few matches, the fielding was good and the bowling tight. our younger ones still need to concentrate on bowling fewer wides and not fast - slow down, get it on target and wickets will come. On a more positive note, the older boys have really come on, the wides fewer, the line straighter and just short of a length bowling meant pressure on the opposition and wickets to those who bowled straight. Hamza Irfaan again was devastating (2-5), debutant Andrew Robinson showed a good pace, and Hamza Gardee was his usual economical self with a cracking leg break that foxed the batter all ends up to pick up his wicket (1-4).

Disappointingly boys still havent learned that ths is a team game, and slogging for 4s and 6s may look good, but in the end you will cost yourself and the team. As they move up through the age group, dodgy technique will be found out, and it is imperative that trying to smash every ball straight or not out, of the park is eradicated as soon as possible! Heed the warning lads! Anyway, thanks to Auid Iqbal and colin Dawson fror helping out this week, the team really benefitted.
