Match report

A young Accies team consisting of no less than 8 of last years graduating U11s got the season off to a winning start at an overcast Ferguslie ground. Andrew Robinson, our captain won the toss and elected to field. This was a league cup game, the first of a few that kicks off our season, with a finals day set for September.

A methodical and workmanlike performance saw Ferguslie bowled out for 64. A pleasing aspect was our tight fielding and accurate throwing which yielded 4 run outs and a pressure inducing spell by our spinners which really put the pressure on the batting team.

However, 22 (!) extras mostly in the form of wides throughout the innings gave us unecessary scoreboard pressure when it was our turn to bat.

The emphasis on not losing our wickets cheaply was unfortunately not heeded and after a solid start to the batting, tumbling wickets to straight balls meant that we had a nervous time towards the end when the game should have already been wrapped up. Man of the match Jack McAmley-Wilding scored a wonderful 26 not out to show that with diligince and application great things can be achieved, and this knock should be taken as a lesson for our other batters who are MORE THAN CAPABLE OF DOING AS HE DID, and I am sure will do in the matches to come.

A winning start to the season that holds much promise iA if we continue to build on our solid foundations and do the basics properly especially the skill of Watching the ball! I nearly had a heart attack as we took things to the wire, but well done lads, a great team performance - onwards/upwards we go!
