Friendly, 6 hours.

Umpire: AE Marsden.
Hours of play: 12pm to 5.30pm + 20overs [min] Tea: 3.15pm/3.50pm. Accies U18 "won" toss and "elected" to field. Umpires were Lionel Glassey and Tony Marsden.
XL Club planned to score 175 to 180 by tea and leave around 50 overs+ for U18's to score the runs required. Solid innings from XL's top four, including a very good half-century by Barry Fitzgerald, put the XL's well on the way to their target. The U18 bowlers all impressed with Chris Rae and Dhruv Satpute nailing their flags to the mast with 5-1-8-0 and 10.4-4-33-5. At one point Dhruv's analysis opening spell showed 4-4-0-1. His spell did include one "bouncer" at the current Junior Convener batting at No11 for XL's but many years of experience saw that to be a futile gesture!
In reply the U18's lost Mark Forbes early to a caught and bowled by Bobby Angus but Euan Dowers and Ewan Stewart then took the score to 53 from 18 overs before Euan was bowled by youngster Andy Galloway.
Dhruv and Ewan S then took the score to 91 from 30 overs before Dhruv was caught and bowled to the wiles of John [Cammy] Cameron. Sadly Ben Mazzucco also fell to a catch at mid-off two balls later. XL's saw a glimmer of light with 90 still required from somewhere around 20 overs. Cammy Russell came to the crease and for a time struggled against tight bowling. However Ewan batted on majestically picking off hard hit singles and two's and eventually Cammy R began to help him.
The U18's triumphed with four balls of the final 20 overs to spare with Cammy R on 23no and Ewan S on 97no. However, on putting up this result, Dobs found an error in the scorebook and, when corrected on the website, his actual total was 99no. Oh for that extra run! Did he even know that he was in the nineties? Even more interesting from the scorebook is that from 63 to 99 he only scored one boundary!
I had an email from Colin Neill [XL Club Scotland Chairman] after the game which included "We had a meeting and decided that this was the best performance from a school/youth team this season. Thought the boys played very well especially the batters.
Thanks for organizing the teas etc. I think everyone had a good day."
I also congratulate the team on its performance. As a result the team will be put forward as a nomination for that category to XL Club [UK] and, if successful amongst myriads of other nominations, I am advised that an invitation will be sent to send the skipper and team manager to the XL Club Annual Dinner in The Long Room at Lords in October.
