Match report

Another wonderful summer's evening and an excellent game of cricket!  The M8 unbelievably was clear into Glasgow from Coatbridge and the match started 5 minutes early!

With a little time before the start and a team talk from the team coach [yours truly] the Accies youngsters obliged by bowling the smallest number of wides this season, the fielding on the whole was good including another two direct hit run outs from Messrs Hood and Rahim, the backing up was good and the team spirit excellent.  However the wickets dried up after the thirteenth over allowing the Drumps lads to almost double their score to 80 for 8 [nett 40]. An interesting target!

As usual Accies reply was stuttering with some decent running between the wickets early on spoiled by missing straight balls, then a frantic partnership between Lewis Gilkison and Simon McAlpine-Scott who were both determined to hit the ball direct to fielders and take suicidal runs.  It beggars belief how they only suffered a single run out in the process but added 21 runs [nett] to the pot.  Messrs Morris and Keeley then steadied the ship not losing a wicket between them and adding a further 6 runs to the pot.  Mikal Rahim continues to impress with good stroke play but tried one big hot too many and perished to a good catch.  He and Cameron Horne added another 9 runs to the pot - slow but steady progress!

It was left to Thomas Aston and Harry Donaghy as the final pair to find the final nett 6 runs for victory. Having compiled 10 of these and with five balls left Harry's defence gave way so 5 runs off - tied scores!  With one ball left the scores were still tied with team mates and parents frantically screaming "only 1 run to win"!  Imagine the pressure as Thomas slammed the final ball into the ground at his feet - "Run, run, run!" was the cry but Thomas knew full well that to have done so would have resulted in his team mate being run out.  The final result remained as a tied match with Accies on exactly the same score as Drumps - 80 for 8 [nett 40].

There was some sensible batting, some ludicrous batting and some very sensible thinking at the death and everyone went home tired but happy.  This team is getting better!
