Match report

Two young teams took to the field at New Anniesland on a pleasant evening..for a change!  Accies' skip, Paterson, won the toss and elected to bat.  The earlier match between these two teams provided a nail biting, last ball win for Accies by a single run and there was clear intent from the start to repeat the result.

The main downfall in recent weeks has been the ability to throw away needless wickets costing five runs apiece.  This time around, however, there was concentration and much better defence of the "good" balls.  Two wickets in the first two overs didn't augur well but there were no further losses in the remaining eighteen overs ensuring a healthy "plus" score at the close of the innings.  Everyone played their part with skipper Paterson top scoring with 12no.

In reply Renfrew survived the first five overs without loss but following an excellent catch by Paterson the wheels fell off.  Faatima Gardee took two wickets in an over and five other scalps followed to Iqbal [2], Paterson [1], Hall [1] and MacAndie [1].  Whilst not taking a wicket the other bowlers all kept the runs down contributing to the overall success on the night.    The big secret? - bowling more than the usual number of straight balls.

It's Greenock down there next week and I hope that the lessons gained from this match will give the lads a much closer result against an already proven, older and more experienced opposition.
