Match report

Another fantastic win for the U13s - the juggernaught took a while to get moving this season, but its momentum is now impressive.

Hillhead invited Accies to bat on a lumpy artificial and struck with the second legal ball as Moshan lobbed a return catch to Soni. Simmers struck the ball sweetly through the covers before becoming the first victim of the impressive Horn. Aston batted with his usual style and composure before being tempted by a flighted Horn leggie and seeing his stumps disturbed. Gilkison came in a played with his usual verve but had to look on in exasperation as wickets tumbled at the other end. Captain, McDonald, provided valuable support before falling lbw. Accies looked like falling short of three figures at 79-9, but Gilkison continued unabashed and McAlpine-Scott played a sensational cameo.  The two added 40 for the last wicket and could have passed a 50, but for Gilkison's suicidal run-out (not even Andy Dodson would have made it home).

Having pushed Accies from a middling to an imposing total, Gilkison and McAlpine-Scott took the new ball. Horn's reputation as a swashbuckling batsman preceded him, but he was no match for Gilkison's jaffa of an opening ball which swung back a couple of feet (no joke!), through the gate and castled the Glasgow North stalwart. Gilkison nearly trapped Khan in front with his next ball, but the swing which beat Horn would have taken the ball just down the leg side. Accies looked fairly comfortable throughout the innings and could have won by some distance had they not conceded quite so many extras. Credit to Mahendra for a wicket on debut, Moffat for bowling two overs without an extra, and Gilkison and McAlpine-Scott for closing out a fine win.
