Match report
It is becoming an annual event recording a tied match and this season has now lived up to expectations. With Accies winning the toss and batting first decent contributions were made by Thomas Aston [16], John Oliver [10] and Ruairidh Hood with a swashbuckling 22 giving our lads an interesting if not overwhelming total of 80 against second top of the table Poloc.
In reply Poloc got off to a great start putting on 48 for the first wicket although never ahead of the required run rate. The Accies' lads were bowling tightly and some goof fielding produced a couple of vital run outs of Poloc batsmen leaving them with 6 runs needed from the final over to be bowled by Thomas Aston. All was going well with two dot balls to start - 6 runs from four balls and five to tie. The Accies' lads were shouting encouragement to each other and the Poloc lads ringing the boundary were also roaring encouragement to their batsmen. A single followed by two runs made things even more frenetic! Two to tie and three to win for Poloc. The fifth ball went for a bye! Last ball - one to tie and two to win!! Chaos! The final ball was hit for the single and the tie resulted. All 22 lads ecstatic plus parents, umpires, scorers and onlookers - even Robert Cheape had been caught up in the wild enthusiasm.
Credit must go to both teams for providing a hugely entertaining match played in great spirit even if the air temperature had again dropped to less than comfortable levels and the headlights of Robert's tractor were becoming brighter by the minute.
The final match is against Clydesdale at Titwood on Wednesday evening.
